Learning Environments
Our educational facilities, training simulators and the training ground are modern and equipped with state of the art equipment and appliances.
We prepare our students for the needs of their profession in realistic environments that promote learning. Our approach to learning is based on constructiveness, wherein students learn and apply new knowledge building on a foundation of what they have learned previously. Our approach to promoting safety-geared thinking is based on the identification of accident risks and threats that impact society, as well as the mitigation of the effects of accidents or social disruptions. Studies are provided in accordance with the multiform principle, which means that the learning environments used by the Emergency Services Academy Finland change according to the topic being taught at a given time.
Simulation learning environments
Simulation learning environments are created by making the learning environments already in use as realistic as possible. We also utilise audio-visual effects, information technology, props and fictional but realistic situation descriptions. Simulation teaching environments comprise a group of products, systems and combinations of these, which have been optimised for the training in question.
Simulation-assisted learning makes it possible to learn new knowledge, apply what has been learned in practical training, and to create exercises, which cannot be modelled at the training ground. A simulation learning environment must be seen as the pedagogical solution of the future instead of a technical tool for one subject. The creation of the simulation learning environments used by the Emergency Services Academy Finland is part of our operating concept and, in this way, we can improve the well-being of society by increasing competence in the emergency and rescue field.
Preserving the Environment
Preserving the environment and the beautiful nature around the academy and the training ground is essential for us. That is why environmental aspects for each training session are carefully considered.
At the training ground we have developed a special drainage system that collects the extinguising water or used chemicals, which then are processed safely and according to the environmental regulations and laws in Finland and the EU. Also, when training with live flames the materials used are low emission and environmentally safe. As a result the environment at the training ground is also as safe as possible for our instructors, students and any other participants.
