How do you apply to the ESC?
Information on admission can be found on our web site. Also information on application instructions and application times for each training programme are available.

When can you apply to the ESC?
The application times are available in the admission guide.       

Fire fighter courses start twice a year in January and August.

ERC operator courses start on different times each year. Application times are available in the application guide.

Sub-officer courses start once a year.

When applying to the Fire Officer Training Programme, youth education, you have to apply through the joint application for entry of Universities of Applied Sciences. The application time is then in March-April. In regard to adult education, the application time varies from year to year.

How old do you have to be to apply to the ESC?
When the training starts you should be 18 years old. There is no upper age limit.

What is the proportion of women of those who has applied and gained entry to the ESC?                      
To each fire fighter course there are about 250 applicants and there are 60 vacant student places. Each year about 1-2 women apply to fire fighter courses. Between 1993 and 2006 four women have graduated.

To each ERC operator course there are around 200 applicants and 24 vacant student places. Of those who apply to a ERC operator curse over 90 percent are women.

How many of those who has applied gain entry to the ESC?

Can immigrants apply to the ESC?
Yes, they can.

How much does the training cost?  Can students get any sort of financial aid?
The training, accommodation and meals are free of charge for students who are studying in a training programme leading to a vocational degree at the ESC. Also the protective equipment is free of charge. However, students are required to buy a student uniform (approx 650 €), study books and other material needed. Students get further information on the acquisitions in the course invitation or during the first lessons at the College.

Students may apply for student financial aid or adult education subsidy.

Must ESC students live in the dormitory?
No, they don’t.

Can you  become a fire fighter by distance studies or apprenticeship agreement?

No, you can’t.

Is a job granted after taking the fire fighter diploma?
At the moment the employment prospects are very good.
